Digital Web Book - Digital Rights Management (DRM) - Overview

A long-standing problem of publishing in electronic format has been the inability to raise revenue from content distribution. The new DRM feature for Digital Web Books (DWBs) provides a unique and compelling solution to this problem by integrating lock-down and electronic payment capability within the DNL Reader (description below).

Publishers using the DWB format may now elicit payment for content viewing at their discretion, allowing users to preview a set amount of content prior to being prompted to submit their credit card details.

Restrictions determined by the publisher may be based upon limiting the number of pages a user may view or the number of Editable image fields a user may interact with. These restrictions relate to different applications of the DWB format. For example, restricting the number of pages a user may view may be applied to eBook publishing, whereas, restrictions relating to Editable image fields may be best suited to the publishing of digital photo albums and scrapbooks.

Users only need enter the relevant details and wait for their transaction to complete. Once their payment is approved the DWB is unlocked and may be viewed by the user in its entirety. The unlocked DWB may only be viewed on the machine upon which it was unlocked and if passed on will require payment from successive users.

The purchase process is similar to traditional browser-based shopping carts and uses 128 bit encryption with SSL for security.

The DRM solution for DWBs is seamlessly incorporated within a fully integrated ecommerce system, managed by eSellerate Inc (eSellerate).

Publishers are relieved of the burden of running such a system and simply need to concentrate on distributing their publications. The platform comprises multicurrency credit card acceptance and real-time sales tracking, together with a web-based administration tool and affiliate program.

The partnership between DNAml and eSellerate, sees the marriage of a leading-edge electronic publishing solution with proven security technology. The combination of DRM with ecommerce capability within a stand-alone document is a world first. For further details please refer to the following link:
